Red-painted Desk/Bookcase, late 18th century, the upper section with paneled doors opening to shelves, set into the lower section with thumb-molded lid opening to an interior of valanced compartments above two rows of drawers, old red paint, (imperfections), ht. 78 1/2, lower case wd. 37, lower case dp. 19 1/2 in. Provenance: David Schorsch; Donna Fields Small collection. Estimate $1,500-2,500 lid broken out with repaired damage and replaced hinges, shrinkage cracks in lower case sides, repaired crack to back right bracket, loss to back left leg (has to sit on a shim for now), replaced brasses missing one bail, some pulls missing from interior drawers, one interior valance missing, chunk missing lower right of top section below hinge, imperfections to writing/work surface, red paint old but not original.
