Vintage chromogenic print on fiber-based Kodak paper with 'A Kodak Paper' watermark on the verso, image size 7 7/8 x 7 7/8 in. (19.8 x 19.8 cm), unmatted. Condition: Minor scratch c.l. N.B. Two and a half days after liftoff, the Apollo 11 astronauts were in lunar orbit, preparing for the descent to the surface. On one of their orbits, as their spacecraft came over the Moon's horizon, they photographed the awesome sight of an earthrise from outer space. 'I really didn't appreciate the first planet [Earth] until I saw the second one...,' said Michael Collins. 'I cannot recall the Moon's tortured surface without thinking of the infinite variety the delightful planet Earth offers' (Collins, p. 469). The NASA negative number is AS11-44-6549.
