Engraved Model 1842 Pistol, c. 1848, walnut stock with two cartouche marks on the left side, brass fittings, tail of lock marked "MIDDTN/CONN./1848," and in front of the hammer "US/H. ASTON.," left side of the barrel marked "NWP," brass back-strap marked "Capt. W.D. Brown from Mjr. R.S. Andrews 1862," barrel lg. 8 1/2, overall lg. 14 in. Provenance: The collection of Nicholas A. Penachio. Note: William D. Brown was a Captain in the 4th Maryland Battery and was wounded on July 2, 1863 during the battle of Gettysburg fracturing both legs and was captured. One of his legs was amputated and he died while a prisoner on July 11, 1863. Richard Snowden Andrews commanded the battalion of artillery that included the 4th Maryland Battery. Estimate $2,000-2,500 Stock has a few dings and nicks, and a small repair and light loss in front of the lock plate, and the action functions properly.
