Model 1863 "Type I" Rifle-musket and Bayonet, c. 1863, walnut stock with two crisp cartouches on the left side, lock dated on the tail "1863" and marked "U.S./SPRINGFIELD," top of the barrel dated on the breech "1863" and proof marked "V/P" over an eagle head, bayonet marked "U.S," barrel lg. 40, overall lg. 56 in. Estimate $2,500-3,500 Stock has a few very minor dings and nicks, some of the case hardening remains on the lock, the barrel bands retain most of the original blueing as does the sight and ramrod, the lock functions properly and in overall fine condition.
