Lacquered Brass Wheel-cutting Engine and Mandrel, Switzerland, 19th century, the freestanding hand-powered wheel-cutting tool on cast iron legs, supporting a brass frame with 7 1/2-in. dividing plate, geared cutter apparatus operated by a turned wood handle on a horizontal beam with lever-bar lock for the wheel blank axis, mandrel with worm-gear-driven hand crank, 5-in. dia. faceplate with steel spring-loaded work holders, brass bar bed, compound slide, tail stock, and tool rest.
