Confederate-used Vulcanized Rain Hat, c. 1862, black vulcanized rubber cap with extended cape, stamped on the inside of the cape "UNION INDIA RUBBER COMPANY/NEW YORK EXCLUSIVE MANUFACTURING/GOODYEAR PATTON/DECEMBER 25, 1844, EXTENDED 1858," with a tag that states "a cap belonging to a lieutenant/in the Confederate army in the/Civil War. It was found at/Corinth, Mississippi by a/Union soldier after the/Confederates had evacuated/their camp." Provenance: The collection of Don Troiani. Note: Purchased at an estate auction in Liberty, Indiana in February 1991. With the auction listing and an article written after the sale.
