Continental School, 19th Century Cattle in a Meadow Overlooking Mountains and a Distant Castle. Unsigned, inscribed "Redler" in a later hand on the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 11 7/8 x 14 1/2 in., unframed. Condition: Scattered paint losses, craquelure, varnish discoloration. N.B. The inscription on the stretcher could refer to an artist or to an owner. The artist closest in period and style appears to be Jakob Roedler (Austrian, 1803-1862), although there was not sufficient evidence to make an attribution.
