Herrera y Tordesillas, Antonio de (1549-1625) Novus Orbis, sive Descriptio Indiae Occidentalis. Amsterdam: Colinium, 1622. First Latin edition (greatly expanded from the original edition of 1601), folio, illustrated with added engraved title, seventeen folding maps, and text engravings, without the Le Maire portrait; preliminaries toned, old signs of damp (relatively minor), some leaves professionally reinforced, bound in full 19th century mottled sheepskin, 13 x 8 7/8 in. This edition contains the first complete account of the expedition of Jacob Le Maire (c. 1585-1616) and Willem Schouten (c. 1567-1625). The two explorers were the first to circumnavigate the globe by rounding Cape Horn to reach the Pacific Ocean in 1616.
