Washington, George (1732-1799) Engraved Portrait Framed in Oak Made from the USS Constitution. Small oval engraved portrait of Washington after Stuart printed on paper and mounted in a hand-carved miniature wooden frame, with a late 18th or early 19th century note on laid paper pasted to the back of the frame inscribed as follows, "Live Oak taken from the Frigate 'Constitution' A.M."; the face of the frame carved with a wreath rendered in low relief in folksy simplified leaf forms festooned with two rounded vague fruits or flowers, one branch terminating with an acorn; two diminutive brass eye hooks on the back; the portrait 1 x 1 1/2 in., the frame 2 1/2 x 3 1/4 in.
