Ames, Nathaniel (1708-1764) Ames 1761. An Astronomical Diary, or an Almanack for the Year of our Lord Christ, 1761. Boston: Printed by John Draper, Richard Draper, Green & Russell, Edes, & Gill, and Thomas & John Fleet, [1760]. Octavo, original homespun stitching, spots, yellowing, and notes to pages, hole in title with loss of text, stained, 6 3/4 x 4 1/4 in. [Together with] a facsimile of The Epistle from the Yearly Meeting [of Quakers] held in London, 1795. An interesting note on the last page describes how to cleanse a house of smallpox, after an inflicted person has moved out. The process involves burning four or more pounds of brimstone on wood ashes in iron pots, placed on sand on the floor throughout the house.
