Bragdon [nee Banks], Tabitha (1702-1745) The Experiences of Mrs. Tabitha Bragdon, Wife of Mr. Samuel Bragdon, Taken, as near as might, in her own Words. Manuscript on paper [Maine], 9 July 1743. 12mo manuscript on laid paper, thirty-one numbered pages, lacking the penultimate leaf (page 29/30), single signature in its original limp leather sheepskin, with old manuscript waste used to form boards, some toning, losses, ex libris Lydia Gordon (the gift of her Uncle Jeremiah Bragdon, March 19, 174?); Samuel Grafton, and Tabitha Grafton, 5 x 3 in. This unpublished narrative seems to come out of the Great Awakening of 1740 an evangelical movement that swept Protestant Europe and British America, and especially the American colonies. George Whitefield (sometimes Whitfield) (1714-1770) was strongly influential in this movement, preaching more than 18,000 sermons in a North American tour in 1740, and whom Bragdon mentions by name.
