Painted in traditional Charleston green, USA, 20th c.; Marked with tag "Old Charleston Joggling Board"; 38" x 197" x 20"; Note: Part children's toy, part porch rocker, part decorative element, the joggling board's usage in the Lowcountry around Charleston, SC is documented from the early 1800s. Also jokingly called a "Courting Board", as continuous, gentle bouncing gradually brings two people closer to the middle--and each other.
