American, early 20th century. A single draw rail mounted maritime telescope from the Prinz Valdemar schooner. Piece is apparently unmarked. Approximate height on support 7", width 23.25" (extended), width 21.75" (closed). Note: The Prinz Valdemar was built in 1891 in Helsinger, Denmark. The schooner was eventually sold to an American company and sank in the Miami harbor on January 10, 1926. The vessel was towed near the Bayfront Park where is was used for many years by different businesses; an aquarium, restaurant and even a beer garden. In 1952, the vessel was completely dismantled and this telescope was retrieved.
