Evelyn Metzger (American, 1911-2007) oil on panel; signed to upper right and dated '97; possibly depicting a copy of an Ajanta & Ellora Caves painting in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra of India . An autobiographical book that accompanies the painting is "The Age of Grandeur And A Woman Who Lived It: Artist Evelyn Metzger". It is a hard bound book that covers both her social life and her artistic appreciation and contributions, examining her formal studies of art history at Vassar, her flexibility and travels, and her portraits. Artwork measures approximately 36" in height by 24" in width unframed and the book measures approximately 11-15/16" x 9-1/2"; painting in good overall condition and book in very good condition.
