Sold for:
$200

Colonial Pennsylvania Half Crown / Two Shillings and Six Pence note, no. 32216, dated 1772, signed ("John Morton"), countersigned by John Sellers and Charles Humphreys. Printed by D. Hall and W. Sellers, with the warning, "To Counterfeit is DEATH." Measures approximately 3.25 x 3 inches, lacks one corner. In 1775, Morton was the Speaker of the Pennsylvania Provincial Assembly. A year later, his vote broke the tie among the Pennsylvania representatives voting on Independence, thus breaking the deadlock which authorized the Declaration of Independence, which Morton signed in August, 1776.
