first half 20th century of elongated octagonal form, the double hinged top opening to two silver mounted inkwells, the side with raised inscription Grace was in all her steps/ Heaven in her eye, in every/ gesture dignity and love/ Milton. Height 2 3/4 x width 8 1/2 inches. In good, stable condition overall. Light surface wear and minor instances of discoloration to the shagreen, particularly to the double-hinged top. Minor split and subsequent lifting to the shagreen on one of the side panels. Hinges intact. Both inkwell tops are slightly warped, and one inkwell with ink residue. Scattered age splits to the wood on both interiors; one with scattered ink stains as well.
