Sold for:
$2,750

(18th Century) The Banquet of Cleopatra oil on canvas 38 x 44 inches. Unframed. Three patches to the reverse of the canvas, the largest of which is approximately 10 1/2 x 9 inches at its tallest and widest points. Scattered grime deposits and areas of wear to the edges consistent with a lack of frame. Canvas is generally dirty. Minor area of surface damage to the paint layer, likely the result of sustained pressure. Examination under UV light reveals scattered areas of retouch to the right-most attendant, as well as to the vertical right edge of the canvas. Extended area of retouch along most of the lower horizontal edge, likely obscuring damage due to a lack of frame. No apparent signature.
