early 20th century the three-quarter galleried top above the cylinder opening to a leather inset writing surface and a series of seven drawers, over two aligned short drawers flanked by swag mounts simulating drapery, raised on square tapering legs ending in brass caps, inlaid throughout with flowering vines. Height 41 x width 37 5/8 x depth 21 3/8 inches. Provenance: By repute, supplied to Marjorie Merriweather Post and Edward Francis Hutton for use aboard their yacht, the Hussar, completed in 1931 and better known as the Sea Cloud. This lot is accompanied by a period photograph of the interior of the Sea Cloud in which the bureau is visible in situ. In overall stable, attractive condition. Old scuffs, marks ands scratches consistent with age and use. Roll top open smoothly but sticks when closing. Brasses loose, likely replaced. Some lifting to veneer on legs, 1/2 inch loss to veneer beneath writing surface.
