Wood block on paper print from page #740 of Harper’s Weekly August 23, 1873 edition, captioned: “SEA-SIDE SKETCHES-A CLAM-BAKE. -(SEE PAGE 742.)” The etching depicts young men baking clams on a rocky beach with various ships at sea in the background. The etching was based on imagery by Winslow Homer (American, 1836-1910) and was engraved by William H. Redding (American, 1840-?). It is signed to the block “W Homer” to the lower right hand side and “Redding SC” to the lower left. Framed and matted under glass. Metallic painted wooden frame measures 22” in height by 17-1/2” in width with the sight image measuring 10-1/4” in height by 15” in width. All measurements are approximate.
