Kawanabe Kyosai (Japanese, 1831-1889). "Townspeople Trying to Subdue the Samurai's Horse" - c.1855, woodblock print, inscribed upper right. Image depicts many figures attempting to subdue a horse, with dogs at bottom aiding in the attempt, a well at lower right with a figure struggling to hold a pail of water, two figural groupings at top, and wild horse at center. With sheet to verso from The Japanese Print Company in Ontario, Canada guaranteeing authenticity, also a short biography. Framed approximately 12 3/4" x 10", sheet size approximately 6 5/8" x 4 1/2".
