French, circa 1750. A Louis XV carved fruitwood and caned bidet and stand, attributed to ebeniste Noel Baudin (French, 1719-1784), having a leather and nailhead trim hinged 'arm rest' compartmented for concealing scents, soaps, toiletries, the cartouche shaped back centered with carved flowerheads over an arched panel inset with caning, the case with upholstered removable cushion over the caned seat that lifts up for access to the porcelain bidet, which is missing, the body paneled and decorated to the front with carved floral motif and raised on cabriole legs. Approximate height 32.4", width 13", depth 23". Note: An almost identical bidet can be seen at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
