Ali won the fight by unanimous decision after fighting the full 15 rounds with Norton to retain his The Ring and WBA and WBC Heavyweight titles. On the interior of the protector, Ali's trainer, Angelo Dundee, has identified it as the "Norton-Ali Cup" with the inscription "To my Buddy/ Mort - None comes/ finer/ Angelo Dundee/ Sept 28/76" in black marker.
