Small Sword, Europe, early 19th century, silvered hilt with cast floral decoration, lion's head quillon, guard with Netherlands coat of arms, mother-of-pearl grip, narrow triangular blade blued at the top and with gilt enhanced etching, overall lg. 37 in. Provenance: Collection of George Snook, M.D. Note: Sword believed to have belonged to Captain DePontiere, one of Major General Baron de Steuben's aides in the Revolution.
