Attributed to Anton Gag (Minnesota, 1859-1908) Saving the Fort Unsigned. Oil on canvas, four armed settlers taking a defensive position in a small structure, Native Americans on horseback galloping by outside, 20 x 16 in., in a giltwood and gesso frame. Condition: Relined, evidence of minor inpainting, varnish flouresces cloudy green. Note: This painting reportedly depicts the Dakota War (also known as the "Sioux Uprising") of 1862, in Minnesota.
