Sturtevant Hamblen (Maine/Massachusetts, act. 1837-1856) Portrait of a Boy in a Red-painted Rocking Chair Unsigned. Oil on canvas, the boy in a black jacket and gray slacks, holding a book, 34 x 28 in., in a mahogany veneer frame. Condition: Slightly reduced in size, inpainting especially to areas in each leg, and small areas elsewhere. Provenance: Mr. and Mrs. William Gunn, Newtonville, Massachusetts; Miss Mary Allis, Fairfield, Connecticut; Stephen Clark, Cooperstown, New York; Property of the Fenimore Art Museum, sold to benefit the Acquisitions Fund.
