Paint-decorated Dower Chest, decorated by Christian Selzer, Jonestown, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, c. 1780, the hinged lid with two floral panels above the brown putty-painted case with two panels of potted tulips bordered by scrolling leaves on the front, the sides with pinwheels in black and white, all on bracket feet, (paint wear), ht. 20, wd. 43 3/4, dp. 19 in. Provenance: Sold at Pook & Pook, The Pioneer Americana Collection of Dr. and Mrs. Donald A. Shelley, April 20-21, 2007, Lot 740, where it was acquired by the present owner.
