Bone and Mother-of-pearl Inlaid and Scrimshaw-decorated Box, Captain Spencer Pratt, Bristol, Rhode Island, 1835-55, the rectangular box inlaid all over in repeating mother-of-pearl pinwheels, stars, sunbursts, teardrops, a mariner's compass, flowering cornucopias, the hinged lid centering a polychrome scrimshaw-decorated panel with a spreadwing eagle above a Union shield, arrows, and olive branches, the back with bone-inlaid flags flanking Union shields, carved ring handles on the sides, all on turned bone feet, (losses, warp to lid), ht. 6, wd. 11 1/2, dp. 8 in.
