Flávio Tavares (Brazil, B. 1950) ink and charcoal on paper; signed and dated "77" to bottom right corner; measures approximately 26-5/16" x 34-1/4" with frame and has a sight image of approximately 19-1/4" x 25"; in Fair overall condition with some wear to frame and light staining and crinkling to paper. Flávio Roberto Tavares de Melo was born in João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brazil, on February 15, 1950, son and grandson of artists. His grandfather on this father's side, Pedro Damião, was a remarkable photographer and his father, Arnaldo, besides his brilliant career as a doctor, spent his spare time drawing in pen and ink, having illustrated a number of books and produced hundreds of vignettes for a local newspaper. As a child, Flávio showed his talent for drawing and painting, and Dr. Arnaldo was his first instructor and since then he has never stopped exercising and experimenting in this artistic branch.
