Paint-decorated Poplar Box, probably Maine, mid-19th century, the top stenciled "E. J.C." below a foliate sprig, allover decoration of yellow-green with stamped areas and spots in two sizes, bordered in red pinstriping and black, ht. 7 1/2, wd. 15 1/2, dp. 9 1/2 in. Provenance: Jewett Berdan, Newcastle, Maine.
