Cliff Arquette (American,1905-1974). Beautifully carved and polychrome sculptural wood (with some metal details) military figure depicting an officer from the 14th Light Dragoons (14th King's Hussars) in red, navy and white uniform typical of 1808. Figure standing at full length and carved in the round on a square base with patch of green textured ground at center, "OFFICER 14th LIGHT DRAGOONS 1808" identifying the work at center. Unsigned. Approximate height 13.4", base 5.1" x 5.1". Note: Clifford Charles "Cliff" Arquette worked as an actor or comedian throughout the 20th century. He is best known for his performance as Charley Weaver. In the 1950s, Arquette established Cliff AArquette's Soldiers Museum in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The museum included Arquette's renderings of solders as well as other historical items. In 2014, the museum closed and the contents were sold at auction.
