Toyohara Chikanobu (Japenese, 1838-1912), "Sanno Festival" from "12 Months of Customs of Edo"-1889, woodblock on paper, leftmost sheet of what was originally a triptych woodblock piece. Ukiyo-e woodblock print depicting the Sanno Matsuri (or the Sanno Festival) in Tokyo with parading figures in elaborate dress, with tall, crowned shrine, with banners, lanterns and flags. With blue rectangular inscription topped by red bow and black and ivory oval inscription to lower left. With indistinct graphite inscription to upper margin. Framed approximately 18.5" x 13.5". Unframed approximately 14.75" x 10".
