Continental School (likely French), 18th century. A finely carved and composed oak 3/4 size figure of St. Roch (French, 1348-c.1376), the Catholic patron saint of dogs and falsely accused people, the saint depicted standing at full length in fully draped robe lifted above proper right thigh with the man gesturing toward a boil on his inner thigh, his alternate arm raised to chest level (likely originally supported a staff), and his gaunt face peering forward with lips open and sunken eyes. Overall approximately 54.25” x 22” x 15”.
