Figural seascape painting depicting a naval battle scene from the Napoleonic Wars, the British, Spanish and French naval fleets meet west of Cape Trafalgar, smoke rises from just-fired cannons, figures climb the wreckage of sunken battleships in the foreground and British and French flags flap in the smoky breeze, with celestial skies overhead. With additional indistinct numeral label to verso "9648a..." Framed approximately 45.25" x 54". Unframed approximately 32.625" x 41.75". Note: Lady Labouchère as mentioned in the gallery label to the work's verso refers to Rachel Labouchère (English, 1908–1996), wife of George Labouchère (1905–1999). The pair are counted among the notable residents of Dudmaston Hall north of Bridgnorth in Shropshire, England.
