(Italian, 1878-1945) Italian Canal and Villagers oil on board signed (lower left) 18 x 23 inches. Scattered areas of loss to the painted surface, or where the paint is thinly applied to the board. Scattered areas where what appears to be an underlying layer of white paint shows through. Scattered tight age splits to the surface of the wood board with resultant cracks to the painted surface, particularly evident on the blue sky and clouds. Examination under UV light reveals no evidence of restoration or repair. Frame: 21 3/8 x 26 5/8 inches. Board: 17 3/4 x 22 3/4 inches.
