Provenance: From the collection of a former Polaroid Corporation employee (1966-1989). N.B. Ansel Adams was an American photographer best known for his iconic images of the American West. Built in 1864, the purpose of the Pioneer Mill, also known as the Aztec Mill, was to provide wheat and corn flour for local residents, soldiers at Fort Union, and to the Indian Agency in Cimarron, New Mexico. By depicting the building from the side, Adams incorporates the wooden archway as a framing device that echoes the edges of the photographic sheet.
