George Harrington (American, 1833-1911) A View of the Houghton Family Homestead in Lancaster, Massachusetts. Signed and dated "G Harrington 1893" l.r. Oil on canvas, 8 x 11 1/2 in., in a gilt gesso frame. Condition: Very minor retouch, scattered craquelure, subtle surface grime. N.B. The artist became a painter after a successful career in business. Accompanying the lot are copies of family letters, including a geneology of the Houghton family. They are descended from John Houghton, who arrived in Charlestown, Massachusetts, from Lancaster, England, in 1634.
