Monumental Ball of String, Edward Chapin, Pen Yan, New York, mid-20th century, dia. 30 in. N.B. This ball of string was accumulated by Edward Chapin, a retired male nurse and hobbyist who died at the age of 91 in 1956. The ball was acquired by a dry goods store owner who displayed it in the store window for the Village of Penn Yan's 125th anniversary. It purportedly weighs over 180 pounds. Provenance: John Krynick, Francis Nestor.
