Late 19th/Early 20th century. Black walnut wood veneered rectangular lap desk with brass metal mounted borders and rectangular plates on top of lid (for monogramming) and surrounding escutcheon. Hinged lid opens to tooled and gilt accented olive green leather writing surface, under side of top with tacked red rickrack for storing letters, two cream colored ribbon supports at bottom to lift lower portion and access storage below. Compartmentalized storage for writing utensils and inkwells in lower front section of box. Unmarked. Approximate height 7", width 20", depth 10".
