Polychrome Painted Box with Sliding Lid, America, early 19th century, dovetail constructed rectangular pine box, the lid decorated with a red, white and blue diamond pattern basket filled with strawberries, surrounded by grapes, leaves, flourishes and scrolls within a striped border, the box having a central shell design on three sides with similar scrolling, leafy vines and geometric star devices, in red, white, blue, gold and salmon colors on black ground, (repair to lid, minor wear), 4 x 12 x 8 in.
