Frederic Roux (French, 1805-1870) Vaucluse... Entering Port of Havre May 10th 1832. Signed and dated "Frederic Roux Havre 1832" l.r., ship identified on bow, stern, and pennant, flying an American flag, titled below. Mixed media including watercolor, gouache, and graphite on paper, sheet size 16 5/8 x 22 3/8 in., in a foliate gilt gesso frame. Condition: Laid down on paper, scattered stains and fox marks, overall toning and fading. N.B. The artist's handwritten label advertising his services as "hydrographe et peintre de marine" was affixed to the backing. The ship's captain was Benjamin P. Gilchrist.
