Attributed to Nicholas Matthew Condy (British, 1818-1851) British Ship of the Line in Coastal Waters. Unsigned, quartering stern view, two other frigates off to starboard. Oil on artist board, 13 1/2 x 11 1/2 in., in gilt molded frame. Condition: Minor retouch u.c. edge and l.l. corner, areas of craquelure, surface grime. N.B. Condy, son of a soldier in the Napoleonic wars, was born at Plymouth. He became an artist, like his father, and professor of painting. A London purveyor's label for "J. Wikey Colourman to Artists 15 Catherine Street, Strand" is affixed to the reverse of the work.
