(ARTICLES OF THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND) 39 ARTICLES OF THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND, London, 1571, first edition, small 4to, old calf recently rebacked, gilt lettering on spine, woodcut title page border with Jugge monogram at head and lion at foot, woodcut device on final, (minor soiling, early notes on margin of one leaf). Note: This is the first edition and authoritative version of the foundational document of the Anglican religion as drafted by Archbishop Parker. These represent the official statement of Anglican doctrine and form based on Protestant Reformed theology, yet they establish the Episcopalian system of church government based on a system of bishops and archbishops.
