Jervis McEntee (American, 1828-1891) Below Fort Halleck Titled and inscribed on the reverse, stamp from the artist's estate sale on the reverse. Oil on canvas, 11 1/2 x 16 in. (29.2 x 40.6 cm), in a period frame or liner. Condition: Areas of bloom, surface grime. Provenance: Through the artist's estate. N.B. Fort Halleck probably refers to the Fort Halleck Military Reservation, in the Humbolt River Basin in Nevada. The fort was established in 1867, and named for Major General Henry Wager Halleck. It was an active military base until 1886.
