American (possibly J. D. Pratt, Lunenburg, Massachusetts), 18th century (circa 1760-1780). Period Salem rocker with pale yellow finish hand decorated concave rectangular splat with flowers, fruit and leaves in black and green tones above seven spindles with hand painted black arrows and turned stiles to undulating arms. Shaped incised seat on tapered bamboo turned legs joined by turned support at front and stretchers above two rocking slats. Unmarked. Approximate height 40.25", width (across rocking slats) 20.75", depth (of slats) 27.5".
