Microscopic Observations or Dr. Hooke's Wonderful Discoveries by the Microscope, published by Robert Wilkinson, 58 Cornhill, London,1780, thirty (of thirty-three) engraved plates, including two folded, index, (unbound, most pages frayed). Note: Abridged edition of Hooke's 1665 Micrographia , the first book devoted entirely to microscopical observations. Microscopic Observations was produced in condensed textual form but retained most of Hooke's original "curiously engraved" plates illustrating early experiments with microscopes of his own design. Plates include "The Forms of Falling Snow," "Eels in Vinegar," and the "Nymph-Worm of a Gnat," with annotations intermixed with "many Entertaining and Instructive Discoveries and Observations in Natural History."
