Engraved and Polychromed Decorated Whale's Tooth, 19th century, the large tooth engraved with an American whaling ship and several small whale boats, one under sail in pursuit of several sperm whales which are surfacing and spouting, and one which has fallen prey to the whalemen which is marked by a flag, heightened with red and blue; the reverse depicting an eagle with wings outstretched, holding a banner inscribed "PROSPER-THE-WHALER," surmounting crossed laurel branches, (age cracks), lg. 9 in.
