Incomplete Hickory Nut-head and Cloth Doll, c. 1860s, inked facial features on classic natural hickory nut conformation, drilled at neck to attach by thread to linen waist-length body with attached arms, wearing dove gray silk Shaker-style bonnet, ht. 3 1/4 in.; fabric and stuffing retained in box to complete the doll. Provenance: Gift to Olga Schwind Chase from Robert Ramsey Chase's aunt Ruth Chase Howland, who noted the doll was begun for a child in the family who died in the 1860s.
