Scene Mecanique Automaton of a Port, circa 1880, the papier-mache and painted-card scene of a harbor, viaduct and Chinoiserie buildings including a clock-tower Pagoda with French flag and circling soldiers, on ebonized base with pull-string cylinder movement playing two Chinese airs, driving pulleys and causing windmill and watermill to turn, soldiers to parade on the tower, a ship to heave on tissue-paper waves and the No. 108 train from Paris to Nancy to pass over the viaduct, under replacement glass dome, ht. 20 in. Note: The oriental theme is unusual and suggests that this piece was intended for export to the Eastern market.
