Twiss, Montreal, Canada, early 19th century, the hood with scrolled cresting above a glass enclosed polychrome and gilt tombstone dial with floral designs, seconds hand, and lettered with "J. & H. Twiss, Montreal," and wooden weight-driven movement, all flanked by freestanding turned columns on waist with thumbmolded door and cove-molded base on cutout feet; the case with elaborate and imaginative polychrome decoration of compass stars, arrows, basketweave panels, rosettes and striping, signed on the door, "Alf. Lortie 1922, archt..." (imperfections), ht. 82 in.
