Marion Monks Chase (American, 1874-1957) Coastal Cliff Signed "Marion Monks Chase" l. r. Watercolor on paper, sight size 15 1/2 x 22 in. (39.3 x 55.8 cm), framed. Condition: Toning, not examined out of frame. Marion Monks Chase was born in 1875 in Boston, Massachusetts. During the 1920s, when modern art was just beginning to penetrate the Boston art scene, she became part of a group of artists who had all received traditional training, yet were influenced by growing modern ideas and trends. The group, which included Chase, Carl Gordon Cutler, Charles Hopkinson, Charles Hovey Pepper, and Harley Perkins, became known as the "Boston Five".1 1 Hershler, Erica E.
